Ellis Construction Company

Harry (Jay) Ellis, a native of Massachusetts, grew up in the coastal town of Scituate,30 miles south of Boston. His knowledge and love of working with his hands came from his father and grandfather, both master craftsmen who taught Jay at a very young age the basic skills necessary to be a good carpenter.

Growing up in such a beautiful New England town, Jay was exposed to older homes and through the years has learned to appreciate the style and architecture that is used in building Colonial and Victorian type homes. Today, his specialty lies in building homes with traditional style, but he likes to add a contemporary flair. Four years at the south Shore Vocational Technical school further prepared Jay in the technical aspects of the building trade. He worked at carpentry for two years after graduation and then spent the next four years serving his country in the U.S. Navy. When Jay returned from the service, his military obligation behind him, he was able to go forward with his career as a builder and dedicate himself to his craft. In the years that followed, Jay's enthusiasm and love for the type of work he had chosen inspired him into designing kitchens, baths and many other types of remodeling.

Jay's ability to work with his clients, to put them at ease and make the space available to them in their new home, serve them to his fullest capacity, is phenomenal. He has expanded this ability by designing architectural plans for his clients, as well as redesigning existing plans in order to suit his clients' needs. Jay has built two and three homes for the same client, which gives him a great deal of satisfaction. Having a client come back to have a second and even a third home built for them is truly a great compliment, that any builder would appreciate.

Many customers in today's market want to keep the traditional colonial look and design, but they also want the contemporary comfort blended into the design of their new home. With Jay's ability, talent for design and knowledge of architecture, he is able to listen to a client's desires and draw the plans they want to fit their needs.

"For a company to grow in a competitive market like Scituate, Hingham and the surrounding locations, you have to offer more; more value, more designs, more options and more service," said Jay. A builder also has to keep up with modern technology and be well informed. Jay has set himself up to do his own millwork, which enables him to make different types of moldings, unique in design as well as traditional. Cabinets can be made to spec under his supervision, which makes his work truly custom in this regard. Historical reproductions are an enjoyable challenge to Jay Ellis. His respect and appreciation for tradition and history serve him well in recreating the authentic historical look of homes, from the designs of our forefathers and the great builders of yesteryear.

Jay Ellis builds homes in Hingham, Cohasset, Scituate, Pembroke and Hanover as well as other South Shore towns. He stands behind his work and goes to great lengths in customizing a home to suit his customers.
